In-Residence 001

We are really excited to select our first 4 artists for the in-residence programme starting this month and running til next summer. We were inspired by the artists who applied and it was difficult making choices for this first round. We were so inspired we actually decided to chose the first four. Below you can find more details about the artists selected. As each artist takes residence we will post details on how to follow their work. Each artist will also lead an in-conversation so there will be chance for you to come and meet them.

The Real Thing!

Its the World Northern Soul Dance Championships at the famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom and Coxy just can't resist that wonderful dance floor and some tunes from The Twisted Wheel.
Despite his dodgy hip he can still strike some curios poses...
Aamir, Martin, Chantelle and Mark came over from Pendle to check out the event for their first time in the tower buildings.
It was a chance to hang out with the young souls from Rumworth Hall...
and to watch some of the dancers close up.
Then it was time for the championships and Martin and Aamir got on the floor..
brave enough to mix old school northern soul moves with ...
 some stunning break dance grooves..
and smooth floor work but it just wasn't enough (Northern Soul) to grab the judges eye...
but we all had a great time and felt that seeing it in the flesh at such a large event will help us to improve our technique and can't wait to come back next year.
The final 12 of the contestants were made up of about nine from the film dancers from Rumworth Hall and we were all very proud for them, especially Laura who came third and young Ethan (below) who got second place after much debate.
Well done to all the finalists and thanks for making us feel so welcome in the scene.
Until next time...
